Kid Kraft: DIY Blues Clues Game

Overall, I don't really know how popular Blues Clues is anymore,
but my son is currently obsessed with it.

Given that, it is extremely hard to find any Blues Clues Merchandise anywhere.
And what I do manage to find is really over priced.

So I decided to make a Blues Clues game for my little guy.

I should warn you I don't have a Cricket paper cutter and I am not a scrap booker so I don't have all the fancy stuff to make an elaborate one. But with a little free hand drawing and some supplies from the dollar store, I think I did pretty well, (see i just KNEW four years of Art School would pay off! :)

Here are the supplies that you will need ( I got mine at Dollar Tree)
- Red spiral bound small notebook ( I couldn't believe I actually found one with red binding!)
- Index Cards
- Pack of foam sheets
-Markers ( different colors)
-Sharpie marker
-Craft glue
- Scissors

(Photo note) You will notice a blue stamp pad and round floral foam.
I didn't name these two supplies because I tried to create a "paw print" stamp with them,
and it failed miserably....you'll have that lol...Just disregard those two items lol

What I did:

For the notebook, I cut out a green foam square and glued it to the front of the notebook.

Then with a black sharpie I free hand drew the "Thinking Chair", cut that out,
and glued it to the green square.

For the "Clues" i had intentions of making a "paw stamp" out of foam and floral foam, but lets just say it didn't work out :(

So I ended up drawing like 10 paws on index cards myself lol

I then cut them into little squares with my paper cutter.

And your DONE!!

Here is the end result!

How To Play:

There are so many different variations on how you can play this, you really need to just base it on how old your little one is.

We decided that the main object of the game would be to find out "what blue wants to do?"
what he wants to do is up to you as the parent. For example, I wanted my son to settle down and get ready for bed last night, so I had him stand in another room, while I put three clues out, one on his pillow on his bed, one on his toothbrush and one on his favorite book next to the bed.

Then I handed him the notebook and had walked around with him singing "we are looking for blues clues" when he saw a clue he would yell out, "a clue! A clue!" then put it down in his handy dandy notebook. When we got all three clues, we went and sat on the couch (our version of the thinking chair) and put the clues together.

He was super excited and couldn't wait to play...again and again and again.

When we were done, he had the notebook in his hand and said "mommy this is really cool! Thankyou mommy!" My heart just melted!!!! At the end of the day I'd say my job was done :)
I mean just LOOK at this face lol
I'd say he is pretty excited.

The best part is, this only cost like 5 bucks to make!! No KIDDING!!!
5 bucks and like 30 minutes!

Enjoy!!

Style Craft- Crackle bauble necklace

Let me start off by saying this was not solely my idea, I took a very original concept from Elsie and Emma over at ABeautifulmess.com and tweaked it to make it my own.

I love gaudy jewelry, bright colored almost ridiculous pieces, have always caught my eye.
And I love to dress us a plain Jane outfit with a POP of color,
this necklace is super easy to make and can be done SO many different ways.

You will need.....
Acrylic Paint in two different colors (I picked turquoise and black)
Ribbon or any kind of string that you would like to use for the actual "necklace"
Wooden balls ( you can get them at the craft store in different sizes)
Bamboo skewers ( kind you use for cooking)
Slide a ball onto the skewer..
Paint the balls in the color that you like,
The trick is not to use too much paint or it will form drip marks.

Let dry, I took a pack of cards and set it on top of the skewer
to allow the stick to hang off of the side of the table.

Next....the magic ingredient!!

Wait for it......

Crackle nail polish!
Because I sell AVON, I used the Avon Mosaic Effects Polish I already had on hand
but any brand will do!

Paint the entire ball in a thick layer of the crackle nail polish...
I added two more beads that I put a free hand design on as well,
but you could also feel free to leave those solid.
Once they are dry, thread them up onto either a ribbon
 or leather string or twine,
whatever your heart desires!

The finished product!
Once I made this I realized that I didn't care for the ribbon as a necklace
( sometimes you will have that),
so I will definitely be changing it to probably a black leather string instead.
But that is the beauty of this, you could change it up a millon times to suit your mood!
You could also paint the balls white and do a cobalt blue crackle over it,
(I love blue and white together)
or even color block it!
Above all have a good time with it, and get creative!

I cant wait!

Oh it feels like spring around here lately! 60 degrees today, that's nearly shorts weather people!!! I am in such a ridiculously bubbly mood lol.Got me thinking of all the things I cannot wait to do! Things like:

1.Go home and play with my little man, he is just SO full of energy and kisses!

2. Make pancakes and spend a lazy Sunday morning with my two favorite guys

3. Go for a fun outing to the mall on Sunday with my two favorite guys, then to Target to buy Hudson......

4. A sit and spin!
Do you remember these? I had one and was crazy about it!
We HAVE to get one,due to reasons you see below: yes he is missing a sock, a sock HE took off, yes he has no pants on,( sorry it's sideways I don't know how to fix that!)

5. Also thinking about redoing my stairway wall, like THIS courtesy of (I am momma hear me roar)

My stairway wall looks similar to the way this one is set up,so it should be fun to take down the wedding photos and put up pics of my beautiful family

6. And thinking about making these

Wich you can find the tutorial for here.

Sigh SO much to enjoy, so little time!

Pumpkin carver!

A few nights ago, me the lil man and Bill carved our pumpkins, this was Hudsons first pumpkin!

Holding the pumpkin for daddy while he cuts it, a VERY important step!
Playing with the small size pumpkin
typical boy, loves the gooey stuff
Look at those chubby legs, don't you just want to bite them!

So how did the pumpkins turn out?.....Well you don't see them here....and lets say there is a good reason for that LOL. Oh well it was fun to say the least!
Little felt candy bag I whipped up for the lil man tonight, project was found on
"I am momma , hear me roar" (find the button on my page) Excellent site BTW, she has three small boys and makes a ton of super easy to do crafts. This felt trick-or-treat bag was easy,I just wish I had fabric paint to paint the "boo" with :( saldy a sharpie pen had to do!

Craft projects accomplished!

My mother watched the baby yesterday while I got a tone of craft stuff done, below is what I have been working on! Feels so good to get some stuff done.

The top shirt I made for Hudson my husbands car show, coming up in April. The second one I made because he (Hudson) is such a little flirt. If anyone would like to order one, let me know! I can put ANY design on it or picture that you want. They are only $12!

I just finished this embroidery, but I have NO idea what to do with it, any idea?Charm bracelet and necklace that I made for a coworkers grandchildren. These are also order able for 7-10 dollars a piece depending on the charms used and work involved. these were only 7 dollars. I also do resin cast charms. if you are interested.I am SO excited I saw this project here and HAD to make it. The heating grate was way expensive at Lowes (like 28 dollars for a 11X17 piece!) luckily, my father had a scrap piece from some restoration work he did recently! the frame is purple krylon sprayed, although you can't really see it. I LOVE this thing! and it makes me realize that yeah I need more jewelry lol. Boy and girl earrings are made by Rascal, as is the hair flower in the photo.
I got so much more stuff that I am working on, I am just at my happiest when I'm crafting!

Tenacity CONQUERED

This weekend ended up being better that I expected.
Hudson handled his shots beautifully, he barley cried at ALL, Saturday he did spike a fever and was feeling basically poopy all day , my poor bubba, but Sunday he was all smiles for miles, and laughing and playing. The doctor also said that I can take him off of the super expensive formula we have had him on since birth, and switch him to soy, can I get a (HELL YEAH!!!) it is HALF the price of his other formula. I just hope to god he tolerates it well,we shall see.
I tackled my “tenacious list” and got quite a few things done, just look below!
newstuff 019

Hudson on Sunday feeling MUCH better!
newstuff 016
Red Feather Boa Wreath I made for my front door
newstuff 018
Valentines wreath for the back door that I made.
I also started working on my "egg nest" jewelry for the springtime, but I can't show you that yet, because it's not done yet PATIENCE PEOPLE :)
....but the point is here, I at least STARTED on it ;)
Since saturday was a rather rough day,The hubby and I ended it with a big ol mug of my own personal hot cocoa...mmmm....
newstuff 021
Here is the recipe for it, if you would like to whip up a batch for your fine self!
This is the recipe for one person, just double it for two (obviously).......
2 tablespoon of Hersheys Cocoa Powder ( I add a bit more because i like it REAL chocolaty!!)
2 tablespoons of sugar
2 tablespoons of water
1 cup of milk( i use soy)
dash of salt
Cinnamon to taste
All Spice or nutmeg to taste
1 shot of Kahlua (any kind of dessert liquor works well, I also like Baileys irish cream and Godiva chocolate liquor)
Whipped cream or marshmallows
half and half for that added creaminess.
Directions:
Mix the cocoa, sugar and water in a pot until dissolved and you have a thick chocolate sauce ( you may have to add more water)
Add the milk, and the salt and let heat ,stirring occasionally, DO NOT LET IT BOIL, or you will get scalded milk (bleh). Once it is as hot as you like, add the cinnamon to taste and the nutmeg, same with the half and half, I like mine really creamy though.
Pour the shots of liquor into the mug, DO NOT COOK IT in the with the milk.
Pour the hot cocoa in the mug, add your marshmallows and or whipped cream.
and mmmmmmm......go snuggle with someone special.:) and enjoy!
Your are FABULOUS!!!
Love Heather

A room of ones own

Virginia Woolf said it best "In order to write fiction, a woman must have a room of her own"

Well in order to do some kick-ass crafts, I must have a room of MY own.

So this is the closest I could come up with, my old craft room is currently occupied as a nursery, so i now have to share the very tiny office space in the next room, with my hubby, Here is what I came up with, I absolutely love it.

I claimed this old cabinet we used to have in the bathroom, and put folded fabrics on the shelves inside, and in the bottom drawer I have all my jewelry findings and polymer clay, and tool organized. it's nice because I can now see everything that I have (which is quite a bit more than I expected) On the floor I put two drawers that hold my card making supplies. I also used an old toothbrush holder to hold my scissors and pens! I cannot WAIT to start making even MORE stuff, now that I have my own place to do it!

Crazy weekend

Oh my gosh I got so much done this weekend! Which surprises me considering Hudson had his four month shots on Friday and spiked a fever Friday night and most of sat. he was extraordinarily cranky and his left leg was swollen, poor dear, I hate getting him shots :( But I know they are necessary. He feels much better today and is back to his happy laughing self:)
hud 019

I also managed to finish a Christmas project, my felt Christmas trees, Bill said it reminds him of the trees in Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, or Jack Frost.
I like the way it looks in my pretty centerpiece on the table.
hud 001

I also finished this fall hand sewn pin.Obviously a bit too late for this year.
Fall Pin
Then began working on my ornaments for my Christmas gifts. Oh yeah, I am in felt heaven! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh :) I love Christmas crafts.

We are working on putting up our Christmas decorations, and I can't wait to see the look on lil Hudson's face when he sees the Tree all lit up in it's Christmas glory, I can't wait to take the family photo in front of the tree :) Too fun!

Hopefully my curtains come today, they were shipped on Friday, so they should reach my door soon. It will be so nice to have a little color in the house!

I also hung out with Julia in the Gordon Arts District yesterday, we went to the Room Service Christmas shop and Kitsch City, had some coffee and a HUGE chocolate chip muffin....
thanks Julia I needed that!

Well hopefully today will go by fast, as will whats left of the work week (THREE DAYS!!! WOOHOO! Then I am off for the Holiday!)

Bizzy Lizzy

Omg I have been in a complete craft coma lately, SERIOUSLY, it's a sickness, and what is up with me and felt lately? i am totally on this crazy felt kick. But i love it, so no matter.

I have been playing around with ideas for making my living room more colorful, when we first moved in the walls were white, we needed to paint quick and we had big purple couches, so i chose a very light tan color ( I still want to repaint it someday, but not anytime soon) a darker tan perhaps. My curtains are just cream and tan sheers, kind of blah. So I checked online and found a great sale at JC Penny's, and I purchased the curtains below in a sage green;which will offset my purple couch. here is the link to the full picture http://www3.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=60156&CatID=60193&GrpTyp=STY&ItemID=161c0b0&attrtype=COL&attrvalue=green&CMID=60156%7c60193%7cshopbycolor&Fltr=COL%3aEquals%3agreen&Srt=&QL=T&IND=61&cmVirtualCat=shopbycolor&CmCatId=6015660193shopbycolor Then I am going to make Turquoise throw pillows for the couch and love seat to really POP IT! I know your thinking, "wow turquoise, purple and green? but really it all works together very eclectically. And our ceramic lamp is turquoise so the pillows should highlight that.

Below are some pictures of living rooms that I really love, I love these color combos! SWOON!!!!

Don't you LOVE this color combo???

So elegant a beautiful!

Aside from redecorating; I am also starting up Christmas projects, making felt cone shaped trees, felt ornaments (for gifts) and this awesome felt mobile I saw online.

Would love to hang this in hudsons room!
